The Hiram College volleyball team defeated Baldwin Wallace University in straight sets, 3-0, in a non-conference match at Price Gymnasium. The Terriers defeated the Yellow Jackets by the scores of 25-21, 25-21, 25-16.
Hiram improves to 8-2 overall with the win, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 3-7 overall for the season.
Offensively, the Terriers were led by senior outside hitter Ariel Pund (Macedonia/Walsh Jesuit) with 15 kills. Sophomore right-side player Jennifer Yardas (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon) was second with nine kills. Sophomore Tierra Moore (Canton/Canton South) set up the offense with 26 assists.
Defensively, junior Danielle Day (Newbury) posted a team-best 21 digs and sophomoreRegina Zyle (Cleveland/Beaumont) was second with 12 digs. Freshman middle hitter Emily Mortimer (Mogadore/Field) recorded a team-high seven total blocks (four solo and three assists).
Hiram will next travel to Marietta for the Marietta College Invitational on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 14-15. The Terriers will play against Trine (Ind.) University in their first match on Friday beginning at 4:30 p.m. Hiram will then play against Defiance College in its second match which is scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m.
