SPRINGFIELD, OHIO — The Hiram College volleyball team was defeated by No. 3 nationally-ranked and defending NCAA Division III National Champion Wittenberg University, 3-0, in a North Coast Athletic Conference match at Pam Smith Arena in Springfield.
With the loss, the Terriers are now 21-6 overall and 6-1 in the NCAC. The Tigers improve to 17-4 overall and 7-0 NCAC.
Hiram was led on offense by senior outside hitter Ariel Pund (Macedonia/Walsh Jesuit) with nine kills and was followed by sophomore Jennifer Yardas (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon) with seven kills. Sophomore setter Tierra Moore (Canton/Canton South) tallied a team-best 26 assists.
Defensively, junior libero Danielle Day (Newbury) had a team-leading 20 digs, followed by Moore with nine digs. At the net, freshman middle hitter Emily Mortimer (Mogadore/Field) recorded three total blocks (one solo and two assists) to lead the Terriers.
Hiram will next travel to Greencastle, Ind. for a NCAC match against DePauw University tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 20). The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
