The Hiram College volleyball team was defeated by No. 12 nationally-ranked Wittenberg University, 3-0, in a North Coast Athletic Conference match on senior night at Price Gymnasium.
Wittenberg (16-8, 6-0 NCAC) defeated Hiram (17-8, 5-1 NCAC) in straight sets by the scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-18.
The Terrier offense was led by freshman Marissa Jay (Parma/Padua Franciscan) with 11 kills. Sophomore Logan Brewer (Barberton/Manchester) was second with eight kills and freshman Nikolette Scruggs (Barberton) was third with six kills. All-NCAC junior Tierra Moore (Canton/Canton South) tallied 28 set assists to lead the team.
Defensively, senior Danielle Day (Newbury) had 14 digs, followed by junior Regina Zyle(Cleveland/Beaumont) with 12 digs. Scruggs led the team in blocking with four assists. Four other players were tied for second with two assisted blocks each.
Hiram will host DePauw (Ind.) University in a NCAC match and home finale tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 26) at Price Gym. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
