The Hiram College volleyball team was defeated by Heidelberg University, 3-2, in a non-conference match at Price Gymnasium.
The two teams traded set victories throughout with Heidelberg (5-9) capturing the first set, 25-20. Hiram (10-5) came back to win set two, 25-21, to even the overall match at a game apiece. The Student Princes won the third set, 25-23, but the Terriers rallied again by winning the fourth set, 25-22, squaring the match at 2-2. In the fifth and decisive set, it would be all Heidelberg as the Student Princes won in convincing fashion, 15-5.
Offensively for Hiram, sophomore Lindsay Brewer (Barberton/Manchester) led the way with 18 kills. Sister Logan Brewer (Barberton/Manchester) added 13 kills. All-North Coast Athletic Conference junior Tierra Moore (Canton/Canton South) recorded a match-high 51 set assists and three players recorded two service aces in Logan Brewer, freshman Laura Kelly(Massillon/Jackson) and junior Regina Zyle (Cleveland/Beaumont).
Senior Danielle Day (Newbury) led the Terrier defense as one of four players with 10 or more digs posting a match-high 22 digs. Moore was second with 16 digs and both Zyle and sophomore Katie Barton (Newbury) added 10 digs. At the net, Logan Brewer had six total blocks (one solo and five assists), while freshman Marissa Jay (Parma/Padua Franciscan) added four blocks (four assists).
Hiram will travel to Granville for a tri-match hosted by Denison University on Saturday, Sept. 28. The Terriers will take on the Big Red in a NCAC matchup at 1 p.m. and will then face Earlham (Ind.) College in a non-conference match at 3 p.m.
