HIRAM, OHIO — The Hiram College swimming and diving teams were defeated by the University of Mount Union tonight (Friday, Nov. 12) in a non-conference dual meet at Alumni Memorial Pool. The women’s team lost a close contest , 151-121, while the men lost, 174-117. [Complete Results]
The Terrier men’s and women’s teams are now 1-2 in dual meet competition.
The women had five individual event winners and one winning relay. Freshman Jessica Gruden (Sagimore Hills/ Western Reserve Academy) captured the 50 meter freestyle with a time of 30.41 seconds and the 100 meter freestyle, recording a time of 1:06.83. Senior Ashlynn Krohn (Wauseon) took first in the 100 meter butterfly, posting a mark of 1:12.27 as well as the 200 meter individual medley with a time of 2:46.11. Junior Sydney Kispert-Bostik (Frazer, Mich./ Frazer) won the three meter diving event with a score of 121.65. The women’s squad also had the winning relay team in the 400 meter freestyle relay as Gruden, sophmore Carson Applewhite (Atherton, Calif./ Atherton), senior Kelsey Covell (Parma Heights/ Valley Forge) and junior Becca Szanto (Bainbridge) posted a combined time of 4:39.48.
The men were winners in five individual events and one relay event. The men’s relay team of senior Santiago Morales (Mexico City, Mexico/ Colegio Bilboa), senior Travis Subda (Spring, Texas/ Klein Collins), Zach Wegman (Knoxville, Tenn./ Bereon) and Colin Kelly (Perrysburg) topped Mount Union in the men’s 200 meter medley relay, posting a winning time of 1:53.65. Morales led the way for the men in individual events with winning times in the 100 meter backstroke (1:06.81) and the 100 meter butterfly (1:00.92). Other winners included, Wegman, who took the 200 meter butterfly with a time of 2:19.20, freshman Ryan Astalos (Bainbridge) who shocked the field in winning the men’s 100 meter breaststroke with a winning time of 1:13.74 and Subda who posted a time of 25.15 seconds in winning the 50 meter freestyle.
Hiram will host Urbana University in a non-conference dual meet on Friday, Nov. 19, at the Alumni Pool. The first event is scheduled for 6 p.m.
