ALLIANCE, OHIO — The Hiram College swimming and diving teams were defeated by the University of Mount Union today (Saturday, Oct. 29) in a non-conference dual meet in Alliance. The women were defeated by the Purple Raiders, 185-92, and the men lost, 170-82. [Results]
With the loss, the Terrier women fall to 0-2 overall in dual meet competition and the men fall to 0-2 overall for the season.
Senior Sydney Kispert-Bostick (Detroit, Mich./Frazer) led the Hiram women winning both the one-meter and three-meter diving events. She posted point totals of 114.45 in the one-meter dive and 133.10 in the three-meter dive. The other top performance for the women was a second-place finish by senior Caitlin McCurley (Apple Valley/Granite Hills) in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:01.03.
On the men’s side, Hiram was led by freshman Lloyd Eshelman (Canton/GlenOak) who also won the one-meter and three-meter diving events. Eshelman had 135.50 points in the one-meter dive and 192.45 points in the three-meter dive. Other top performances for the men included a series of second place finishes by junior James Degroff, freshman Kyle Meggas (Lakewood), sophomore Ryan Astalos (Bainsbridge/Kenston) and sophomore Job Fields (Chillicothe). Degroff placed second in both the 50-yard backstroke (28.78 seconds) and the 50-yard freestyle (23.27 seconds). Meggas finished second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.93 and Astalos touched the wall in second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a mark of 1:07.01. Fields finished second in the 500-yard free in a time of 5:31.00.
The Hiram swim teams will host a tri-meet against Malone University and Ursuline College on Friday, Nov. 4 in the home opener at Alumni Memorial Pool. The first event is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
