HIRAM, OHIO  —  The Hiram College swimming and diving teams were defeated by The College of Wooster tonight (Friday, Jan. 13) in the North Coast Athletic Conference opener at Alumni Memorial Pool.  The Terrier women lost, 154-70, and the men fell, 122-64.  [Meet Results]

Following tonight’s meet, the Hiram women are now 4-5 overall in dual meet competition and 0-1 in the NCAC.  The men are 2-5 overall and 0-1 NCAC.

The top individual finishes for the women on the night included a first-place finish by senior diver Sydney Kispert-Bostick (Detroit, Mich./Frazer) in the three-meter dive with 133.30 points.  She also finished second in the one-meter dive with 121.65 points.  Senior Becca Szanto (Bainbridge/Kenston) placed second in the 100-meter freestyle with a mark of 1:08.72.  Sophomore Jessica Gruden (Sagamore Hills/Western Reserve Academy) finished just behind Szanto in the same event posting a time of 1:08.78 to finish third.  Senior Caitlin McCurley (Apple Valley/Granite Hills) came in third in a pair of events including the 800-meter free (10:28.15) and the 400-meter free (5:17.49).  Freshman Rachel Buckley (Amherst/Elyria Catholic) also recorded a third-place finish in the 50-meter free touching the wall in a time of 30.06 seconds.

The men were paced by sophomore Job Fields (Chillicothe) who captured the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 9:40.91.  He also touched the wall second in the 400-meter free (4:45.78) and the 400-meter individual medley (5:24.57).  Freshman Lloyd Eschelman (Canton/GlenOak) won both the one-meter and three-meter diving events with point totals of 181.55 and 142.15 respectively.  Fellow freshman Kyle Meggas (Lakewood) recorded a pair of second-place finishes in the 200-meter free (2:11.16) and the 200-meter backstroke (2:38.76).  He also placed third in the 100-meter free in a time of 1:00.25.  Sophomore Ryan Astalos (Bainbridge/Kenston) touched the wall in second place in the 50-meter free recording a time of 26.04 seconds.  He also had a third-place finish in the 200-meter butterfly with a mark of 2:43.81.

The Hiram swim teams will compete again tomorrow (Saturday, Jan. 14) when the Terriers host Wittenberg University in a NCAC dual meet at Alumni Pool.  The first event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
