HIRAM, OHIO — The Hiram College swimming and diving teams were defeated by Notre Dame College tonight (Friday, Oct. 29) in a non-conference dual meet at Alumni Memorial Pool. The meet was the home opener for the Terriers, whose women’s team lost, 169-101, while the men lost, 178-115. [Results]
The Terrier men’s and women’s teams are now 0-1 on the year.
The women had four individual event winners and one winning relay. Senior Kelsey Covell (Parma Heights/Valley Forge) captured the Women’s 800 Meter Freestyle with a time of 10:37.62. Junior Sydney Kispert-Bostik (Frazer, Mich./ Frazer) won both the one meter and three meter women’s diving events with scores of 119.50 and 116.40 respectively. Rounding out the individual winners for the women was junior Amelia Dorschel (Rochester, N.Y./ Greece Athena) in the 200 meter individual medley with a time of 2:47.82. the women’s squad also had the winning relay team in the 200 meter freestyle relay. Senior Ashlynn Krohn (Wauseon), freshman Jessica Gruden (Sagimore Hills/ Western Reserve Academy), senior Becca Szanto (Bainbridge), and senior Claire Rachek (Chagrin Falls/ Kentston) posted a combined time of 2:01.40.
The men were led by senior Zach Wegman (Knoxville, Tenn./Bereon) who won both the 100 meter backstroke and the 200 meter butterfly with times of 1:04.52 and 2:16.81 respectively. Other winners included senior Travis Subda (Spring, Texas/Klein Collins) who won the 100 meter free with a time of 55.49 seconds and senior Santiago Morales (Mexico City, Mexico/ Colegio Bilboa), who won the 100 meter fly with a time of 1:01.32. In addition the men also had a winning relay team. The team of Subda, senior Colin Kelly (Perrysburg), Wegman and Morales captured the 200 meter free relay with a mark of 1:42.60
Hiram will host Bethany (W. Va.) College in a non-conference dual meet on Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Alumni Pool. The first event is scheduled for 1 p.m.
