HIRAM, OHIO — The Hiram College swimming and diving teams fell to Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College today (Saturday, Jan. 29) in a non-conference dual meet and home finale at Alumni Memorial Pool on senior day. The Terrier men lost by the final score of, 133-96, and the women lost, 132-81. With the loss, the Hiram men end the regular season with a 3-9 overall record in dual meet competition and the women finish with a 4-10 overall mark.
The men had five individual event winners and were led by the duo of seniors Colin Kelly (Perrysburg) and Travis Subda (Spring, Texas/Klein Collins) who both won a pair of events. Kelly claimed both the 200-meter freestyle (2:05.46) and 400-meter free (4:24.21), while Subda came in first in the 100-meter free (54.50 seconds) and 200-meter breaststroke (2:35.86). Joining Kelly and Subda in the winner’s circle was fellow senior Santiago Morales (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Bilboa) who posted the top time in the 200-meter individual medley with a mark of 2:23.44.
For the women, the best individual finish was turned in by junior Amelia Dorschel (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:48.34.
The Hiram swim teams will be idle until Thursday, Feb. 10 when the Terriers compete in the first day of the annual North Coast Athletic Conference Swim Championships at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton. Denison University will serve as host of the three-day event with the first event beginning each day at 10:30 a.m.
