The women captured six individual events and had one multi-event winner in sophomoreRachel Patten (Castalia/Margaretta) who won both the 800-meter freestyle (10:03.02) and the 400-meter free (4:55.53). Junior Rebecca Wright (New Carlisle/Northwestern Local) won the 100-meter butterfly in a time of 1:18.72, while freshman Natalie Waple (Bedford) touched the wall first in the 100-meter breaststroke posting a mark of 1:29.48. In addition, juniorsSamantha Polmanteer (Berkley, Mich./Berkley) and Emily Anderson (Morgantown, W.Va./University) won the one-meter and three-meter diving events with 128.25 and 87.45 points respectively.
Sophomore Danny Essel (Cleveland/Euclid) captured both individual event victories for the men coming in first in the 200-meter individual medley (2:29.12) and the 100-meter breast (1:12.50). Hiram also had multiple second-place finishes with senior Ryan Astalos(Bainbridge/Kenston) posting runner-up times in the 200-meter free (2:14.93) and the 100-meter breast (1:13.74). Fellow senior Job Fields (Chillicothe) placed second in the 800-meter free (9:57.82) and sophomore Mark Stanke (Dover) was second in the 100-meter free (59.86 seconds).
The swim teams will travel to Washington, Pa. for a dual meet against Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College tomorrow (Saturday, Jan. 25). The first event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
