HIRAM, OHIO — The Hiram College swimming and diving teams were defeated by John Carroll University today (Saturday, Jan. 21) in a non-conference dual meet at Alumni Memorial Pool. The women lost, 191-71, and the men fell, 197-87. [Meet Results]
Following today’s meet, the Terrier women are now 4-8 overall this season and the men are now 2-8 overall.
Event winners for the women included senior Caitlin McCurley (Apple Valley/Granite Hills) in the 800-meter freestyle who swam a time of 10:16.95. Freshman Rachel Buckley (Amherst/Elyria Catholic) captured the 100-meter free posting a mark of 1:04.08. She would also finish second in the 200-meter free touching the wall in a time of 2:24.07. Senior Sydney Kispert-Bostick (Detroit, Mich./Frazer) won both the one-meter and three-meter diving events with 142.50 points and 137.55 points respectively.
On the men’s side, sophomore Job Fields (Chillicothe) won the 800-meter free in a time of 9:53.95. He also recorded a second-place finish in the 400-meter free (4:46.63). Fellow sophomore Ryan Astalos (Bainbridge/Kenston) had the top overall time in the 1:14.66 in the 100-meter breaststroke. He also had the top mark in the 50-meter breast (34.09). In addition, freshman Lloyd Eshelman (Canton/GlenOak) won both the one-meter (178.55 points) and three-meter (166.55 points) dives.
The Hiram swim teams will host Urbana University in a non-conference dual meet on Friday, Jan. 27 in the home finale at Alumni Memorial Pool. The first event is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
