The Hiram College swimming and diving teams competed against Oberlin College as part of the Cleveland City Tour hosted by Oberlin.
The Terrier women had one individual event winner in junior Samantha Polmanteer (Berkley, Mich./Berkley) who won the one-meter dive with a score of 114.90 points. Hiram also had three second-place finishes, including two by sophomore Rachel Patten (Castalia/Margaretta) who came in second in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:38.13) and the 500-yard free (5:40.73). The other “runner-up” finish was recorded by junior Carly Daniels (Mesa, Ariz./Dobson) in the 200-yard free with a mark of 2:05.32.
On the men’s side, Hiram had one event winner in sophomore Danny Essel (Cleveland/Euclid) who captured the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.30. The men also placed second in three events that included two second-place finishes by senior Ryan Astalos (Bainbridge/Kenston) who touched the wall second in both the 100-yard free (51.82 seconds) and the 100-yard breast (1:06.92). Essel also finished second in the 200-yard individual medley with a mark of 2:14.54.
Hiram will return to the pool tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 2) with the final dual meet as part of the Cleveland City Tour hosted by Oberlin College. The Terriers will take on Baldwin Wallace University at 11 a.m.
