The Hiram College swimming and diving teams competed against Baldwin Wallace University as part of the Cleveland City Tour hosted by Oberlin College in Oberlin.
The Terrier men beat BW, 97-91, but Hiram was defeated by the Yellow Jackets in the overall meet in the combined scoring format, 232-196.
The Hiram women won four individual events, including one multi-event winner in sophomore Rachel Patten (Castalia/Margaretta) who won both the 1000-yard freestyle (11:46.25) and the 500-yard free (5:42.70). In addition to Patten, junior Rachel Buckley (Amherst/Elyria Catholic) touched the wall first in the 50-yard free (26.48 seconds) and fellow junior Carly Daniels (Mesa, Ariz./Dobson) posted a winning time in the 100-yard free (58.59 seconds).
On the men’s side, the Terriers also had four individual event winners and one multi-event winner. Freshman Jordan Canevari (Vero Beach, Fla./St. Edward’s) won both the 200-yard butterfly (2:24.74) and the 500-yard free (5:30.25). Senior Ryan Astalos (Bainbridge/Kenston) came in first in the 200-yard free with a mark of 1:57.73 and fellow senior Job Fields (Chillicothe) had the winning time in the 200-yard backstroke of 2:14.92. The men also had a winning relay team in the 400-yard free relay. FreshmanJamal Hill (Inglewood, Calif./Junipero Serra), sophomore Mark Stanke (Dover), Fields and sophomore Danny Essel (Cleveland/Euclid) recorded a combined time of 3:40.43.
Hiram will host a tri-meet against Ursuline College and Malone College on Friday, Nov. 8 in the home opener at Alumni Memorial Pool. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
