eec-logoHiram College students will engage in a week of entrepreneurship talks, workshops and competitions during Entrepreneurship Immersion Week, Aug. 4-9, 2013.

The five Hiram College students participating – Ryan Kuhar ’14, computer science major from Medina; Bhavneet Kala ’14, biomedical humanities major from Hudson; Shane Young ’14, political science major from West Farmington; Kaitlin Ruszkowski ’14, biomedical humanities major from Mentor and Elle Rochford ’14, art major from Akron – will join teams of five students from each of the colleges in the Entrepreneurship Education Consortium. Hiram College is hosting the event.

During the course of the six-day event, local entrepreneurs, entrepreneurship professors and others will present lectures on feasibility, networking, legal issues and other topics related to entrepreneurship.

Meanwhile, students will work in their teams to develop an entrepreneurial idea, which they will present in the form of a competition at the end of the week.

New this year, EEC is using the Northeast Ohio software startup, DecisionDesk, to support the week’s activities. This service will help the Consortium screen students’ business plan presentations and assess the knowledge participants gain as a result of the intensive one-week experience. The inclusion of the new service will not only make it easier for reviewers to evaluate students’ work, but also provide valuable feedback to the Consortium as to how it can further enhance the Immersion Week in the future.

DecisonDesk founder and CEO, John Knific will be the keynote speaker at the awards luncheon on Aug. 9.

EEC is a consortium of public and private universities in Northeast Ohio that come together to provide experiential and theoretical entrepreneurship experiences for students. Kay Molkentin, director of the Center for Integrated Entrepreneurship at Hiram College, serves as the Consortium’s president.
