Over the years, students and faculty have studied far and wide through Hiram College’s study abroad programs.

Recently, a group of 22 students and two professors spent three weeks traveling on a 125-foot ship through the Caribbean Islands as part of the course “Contested Seas: Exploration, Exploitation and Resistance in the Caribbean Basin.”

As part of the unique experience, students were responsible for maintaining the ship: handling the seven sails, scrubbing the deck, lifting the anchor, tying knots, making coils and steering.
