Prospective and current college students can receive free one-on-one professional financial aid help at Hiram College on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015.
Hiram College will host the statewide college financial aid event “College Goal Sunday” from 2-4 p.m. in Hinsdale Hall, Room 214. The free event, presented by the Ohio Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (OASFAA) and endorsed by the Ohio Board of Regents, assists students and parents with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is required for students who wish to receive federal financial aid (Federal Pell Grant, student loans, need-based state grants, work study). Hiram is one of more than 50 locations throughout Ohio hosting a College Goal Sunday workshop.
Due to the great demand expected for assistance in completing the FASFA, families are encouraged to register for the free event at online or by calling 1.800.233.6734.
Families can file the FAFSA before they’ve filed taxes, as long as they have their W-2s. College Goal Sunday attendees should bring the following information:
- Student’s IRS 1040 tax return and W2s
- Parents’ IRS 1040 tax return and W2s
- Social Security Card and Driver’s License
- Any other benefit and income information
The FAFSA is the key to funding a college education and helping families to overcome financial barriers that otherwise prevent students from attending the institution they want to. Studies show that a student is 50 percent more likely to attend college when they complete the FAFSA. While walk-ins are welcome, registration is encouraged. Record numbers are expected.
Prospective and current students and families who cannot attend the Feb. 8 workshop can contact Hiram College’s Financial Aid Office for help filing the FAFSA. Call 330.569.5107 on Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
