The Hiram College softball team picked up its first win of the season on Monday at the Spring Rebel Games in Winter Haven, Florida.
The Terriers (1-3) fell to Carroll (Wis.) 5-3 in nine innings and defeated Albion (Mich.) 5-4.
Against Albion (1-5), senior Janie Linger (Akron/Firestone) laid down a bunt. The Britons made two throwing errors on the play, allowing Linger to circle the bases. Junior Kali Stover(Akron/Coventry) also scored on the play.
In the third, senior Miranda Wright (Richfied/Revere) had a RBI groundout to make the score 3-0.
The Britons scored a run in their half of the fifth and put together a rally in the last half of the seventh, scoring three times. But Albion stranded the tying run on third base as sophomoreBrittany Zajac (Corry, Pa.) struck out the final batter of the game.
Zajac struck out two batters in the game and picked up her first win of the season.
In the game versus Carroll (5-4), Hiram struck first on a RBI single from junior Danielle Latine (Eastlake/North) to take a 1-0 lead in the second.
The Pioneers answered with two runs in the third to jump in front 2-1.
The Terriers would tie the game in the sixth on a single by Wahl that scored Perrotta, knotting the game at 2-2.
After Carroll scored in its half of the eighth, Hiram battled back to tie the game on a RBI single from Wright.
But the Pioneers would plate two runs in the ninth and survived a Terrier rally to pick up the win.
Junior Meghan Garland (Mineral Ridge) fired all nine innings and struck out three batters.
The Terriers will continue play on Tuesday with another double header. Hiram will take on Catholic (D.C.) at noon and Washington College (Md.) at 2:30 p.m.
