Our Statement of Core Values includes the following tenet: “We are committed to the well-being of each member of the community.” At Hiram, we care for each person’s well-being in a multitude of ways: intellectually, socially, spiritually and physically. In 2022, we will be taking steps to expand on that commitment and to preserve the physical well-being of our students, faculty, staff and campus visitors.
Starting January 1, 2022, we will be a smoke-free, tobacco-free college. Hiram College will prohibit the use of smoking and tobacco products on all college-owned property, including our main campus, the James H. Barrow Biological Field Station and the Northwoods Field Station.
We made this decision with three goals in mind:
- By prohibiting smoking and tobacco use, we want everyone to be safe, healthy and comfortable at any Hiram facility.
- We also hope that this decision will prevent anyone at the College from starting the habit of smoking or tobacco use.
- Finally, we want to encourage those who do smoke or use tobacco to use the resources available to stop.
