CLEVELAND, OHIO — Hiram College women’s basketball player and senior guard Jess Cowan (Hiram/Crestwood) has been named this week’s North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week. [NCAC Women’s Basketball Release]
Cowan led the Terriers to back-to-back victories over the weekend to begin the season, which included a 67-64 overtime win against Westminster (Pa.) College in the season opener and a 72-66 win against Penn State-Behrend on Sunday (Nov. 28).
Cowan averaged an impressive 23.0 points per game in two games while shooting 50.0 percent (16-of-32) from the field. She also averaged an equally impressive 9.0 rebounds per game. Cowan scored a career-high 25 points in the game against Westminster, including scoring the final four points of the game to secure the overtime victory. She then followed her career-setting performance with a 21-point individual effort in the win against PSU-Behrend in addition to pulling down nine rebounds in both contests.
She currently leads the NCAC in scoring early in the season and is in a three-way tie for second in rebounding. Her 50.0 shooting percentage is tied for fifth best in the conference.
Cowan and the rest of the Terrier women’s basketball team travels to Wooster on Wednesday, Dec. 1 for a matchup against The College of Wooster in the NCAC opener. The game will part of a basketball doubleheader with the Hiram men’s team. The women will take on the Fighting Scots at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 8 p.m.
