CLEVELAND, OHIO — Hiram College senior pitcher/outfielder and two-time first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference player Whitney Dropsey (Ashland/Hillsdale) has been named this week’s NCAC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season.
Dropsey helped lead the Terriers to four victories last week, including picking up three victories on the mound, with a pair of conference doubleheader sweeps against Ohio Wesleyan University and Allegheny (Pa.) College. Hiram has won its last eight games and nine of its last 10 games. The Terriers have a 13-9 overall record and lead the NCAC with a perfect 4-0 record.
In four appearances at pitcher this past week, Dropsey posted a 3-0 record, including pitching two complete games and a shutout. She had a 1.53 earned run average giving up seven runs with 24 strikeouts in 32 innings pitched. In the doubleheader against Allegheny, Dropsey pitched 14 and two-thirds scoreless innings including a seven-inning shutout in game one.
At the plate, Dropsey finished the week with an impressive .636 batting average (14-of-22) with a triple, a run scored and seven RBI. She also drove in the game-winning run in a 4-3 victory in game two against Allegheny in the bottom of the 11th inning on Sunday (Apr. 11).
For the season, Dropsey is hitting .400 at the plate (36-of-90) with two triples, two doubles, 15 runs scored and 14 RBI. She has also not recorded a strikeout at the plate this season, continuing her streak of 26 consecutive games, dating back to last season, without striking out. Dropsey also increases her career mark of 460 at-bats with only one strikeout in three-and-a-half seasons.
As a pitcher this season, Dropsey has a 9-5 overall record with a team-leading 1.39 ERA in 17 appearances. She has pitched 96 innings with seven complete games, three shutouts and 78 strikeouts.
Dropsey and the Hiram softball team will look to continue their winning ways this weekend when they host Kenyon College in a NCAC doubleheader on Saturday (Apr. 17) at Myrtis E. Herndon Field. The first game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
