GREENCASTLE, IND. — The Hiram College men’s soccer team was defeated by DePauw University, 2-1, today (Saturday, Sept. 24) in the North Coast Athletic Conference opener for the Terriers in Greencastle, Ind. [Game Stats]
After today’s outcome, the Terriers are now 4-1-1 overall and 0-1 in the NCAC. The Tigers improve to 7-1 overall and 2-0 NCAC.
DePauw scored the only goal of the first half from Andy Morrison at the 36:06 minute mark and gave the Tigers a 1-0 margin at halftime.
In the second half, DePauw’s Morrison found the back of the net for a second time during the 68th minute to extend the lead to 2-0. Hiram cut the deficit in half with a score by junior All-NCAC forward Ryan Minick (North Royalton) on a corner kick at the 85:53 mark, making the score 2-1. The Terriers could not score the equilizer in the final minutes to tie the game as DePauw hung on for the 2-1 victory.
In net, junior Joe Rottinger (Strongsville) played all 90 minutes, but was given the loss and is now 4-1-1 for the season. He allowed the two goals and made two saves.
Hiram is scheduled to host Saint Vincent (Pa.) College on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at the Charles A. Henry Field. The game is scheduled to begin at approximately 7:45 p.m.
