The Hiram College men’s soccer team led by a goal at halftime, but two second half goals by DePauw (Ind.) University led to a 3-2 loss against the Tigers in a semifinal game of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament in Greencastle, Ind.
Hiram (15-3-1) got on the board first with a goal at the 28:41 minute mark by senior midfielder Ty Smith (Rocky River/St. Ignatius) to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead. DePauw (13-1-4) quickly answered the score with a goal of its own during the 32nd minute off the foot of Andy Morrison to even the game at 1-1. The Terriers regained the lead at the 35:08 mark with an unassisted goal by sophomore midfielder Ryan Kramarz (Chesterland/West Geauga) that would lead to a one-goal edge at halftime.
In the second half, DePauw’s Nate Snyder knotted the game at 2-2 at the 56:02 mark. A minute later, Morrison put the Tigers up by a goal with his second score of the game during the 58th minute to make the margin 3-2. The Morrison goal would turn out to be the game winner as Hiram could not net the game tying goal, resulting in the one-goal victory for DePauw.
In net for Hiram, freshman Kirby Rice (Copley) played all 90 minutes, but suffered the loss and ends the season with a 4-1 overall record. He allowed three goals and made 10 saves.
