The Hiram College men’s soccer team came up on the short end of a non-conference matchup against John Carroll, falling 1-0 on Wednesday evening at Henry Field.
The Terriers see their record drop to 5-4-0 on the season, while the Blue Streaks improve to 6-3-0.
JCU had a chance to strike in the 18th minute of the match.
Dalton Browsky of the Blue Streaks broke free in the box, but sophomore defender John Pretzlav(Chagrin Falls/Kenston) came in for a nice slide tackle to deny the attack.
JCU would get on the board when Karol Boyrka found the back of the net in the 31st minute.
In the second half, the Terriers mounted an attack in the 52nd minute.
Junior Richie Webb (London, England/Lourde Lady Elizabeth School) passed the ball off of a restart to senior Ryan Kramarz (Chesterland/West Geauga). Kramarz would send a cross into the box that senior Andy Harding (Akron/Revere) headed just above the goal.
In the closing minutes, Kramarz would control a ball down the right sideline. He sent a cross in the box that sophomore Vaal Ngalla (Columbus/St. Charles Prep) fired towards the goal. Blue Streak goalie Derek Jenkins made a diving stop to preserve the lead.
The Blue Streaks outshot the Terriers 12-3 in the contest
Hiram will return to action on Saturday, with a key early season matchup at Wabash (Ind.). The game is set to begin at noon.
