The Hiram College men’s soccer team was defeated by John Carroll University, 3-2, in a non-conference game in University Heights.
Hiram (1-4-1) fell behind early as John Carroll (3-1) capitalized on a penalty kick opportunity just 23 seconds into the game to take the 1-0 lead. The Blue Streaks increased the margin with a score late in the period at the 33:25 mark to make the score 2-0. The Terriers cut into the deficit with an unassisted marker by junior Andre Ruiz (Georgetown, Cayman Islands/John Gray) during the 38th minute to narrow the gap to 2-1 at the intermission.
Early in the second period, Hiram tied the game at 2-2 thanks to a score by junior Zaire Morrison(Boardman) with an assist by fellow junior Ryan Kramarz (Chesterland/West Geauga) at the 56:41 mark. The game remained tied until late in the half when JCU tallied what turned out to be the game winner during the 80th minute en route to the 3-2 victory.
In net, sophomore Matt Sacher (Akron/Coventry) started the game for Hiram and played all 90 minutes allowing three goals while making 12 saves. He would also suffer the loss and is now 0-1-1 overall.
Hiram will host Franciscan University on Sunday, Sept. 15 in a non-conference game at Charles A. Henry Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
