TIFFIN, OHIO — The Hiram College men’s soccer team was defeated by Heidelberg University, 2-1, on Tuesday (Sept. 21) in a non-conference matchup in Tiffin. [Game Stats]
With the loss, the Terriers are now 2-6 overall and the Student Princes improve to 5-2 overall for the season.
Hiram scored the only goal of the first half at the 31:01 minute mark off the foot of sophomore forward Ryan Minick (North Royalton), giving the Terriers a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Heidelberg got on the board twice in the second half, beginning with the game-tying goal by Gran Beck during the 54th minute, evening the score at 1-1. The Student Princes then took the lead at the 55:09 mark with a goal by Mike Harling, giving Heidelberg at 2-1 edge. Hiram was held to four shots in the period and could not score the equalizer as Heidelberg went on to win by the final of 2-1.
In goal for the Terriers, senior Joe Tatum (Georgetown, Cayman Islands/St. George’s School) played all 90 minutes, but was given the loss and is now 2-6 overall. He allowed two goals and made nine saves.
Hiram will open North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 25 against Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Ind. The game is scheduled to begin at noon.
