The No. 24 nationally-ranked Hiram College men’s soccer team suffered its first North Coast Athletic Conference loss of the season at the hands of No. 20 nationally-ranked Allegheny (Pa.) College, 3-0, in a NCAC game at Charles A. Henry Field.
The first goal of the game wasn’t scored until the 64:23 minute mark when Allegheny’s (13-1-1, 5-0-1 NCAC) Timothy Egan found the back of the net off of a free kick to give the Gators a 1-0 lead. About 10 minutes later, Allegheny increased its lead with an unassisted goal by Conor Azevedo on a deflection off of the Hiram (12-2-1, 3-2-1 NCAC) netminder to make the score 2-0. The Gators sealed the victory with one last goal during the 81st minute from Tyler Danzey as Allegheny went on to claim the 3-0 victory.
In net for the Terriers, senior Joe Rottinger (Strongsville) played the entire game, but suffered his first loss of the season and is now 8-1-1 overall for the season. Rottinger allowed three goals and made three saves in 90 minutes.
Hiram will wrap-up its regular-season home schedule when the Terriers host Denison University on Saturday, Oct. 20. It will be senior day with kickoff slated for 6 p.m.
