OBERLIN, OHIO — Junior All-North Coast Athletic Conference midfielder Ryan Greenhill (Solon) scored a goal and an assist as the Hiram College men’s soccer team defeated Oberlin College, 3-1, tonight (Saturday, Oct. 15) in a NCAC game in Oberlin. [Game Stats]
With the win, the Terriers improve to 8-3-1 overall and 3-2 in the NCAC. The Yeomen fall to 5-10 overall and 2-4 NCAC.
The game remained scoreless until past the midway point of the first half when junior forward Taylor Kiefer (North Canton/Hoover) scored the game’s first goal at the 31:15 minute mark with an assist from junior All-NCAC forward Ryan Minick (North Royalton) to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead. Neither team would score in the final minutes of the period as Hiram maintained is one-goal edge at the break.
In the second half, Hiram added to its lead during the 51st minute with an unassisted marker by Greenhill in what would turn out to be the game-winning goal as the lead increased to 2-0. Later in the period, the Terriers struck again, this time off the foot of senior defenseman Tyler Launder (Whitehouse/Anthony Wayne) at the 73:36 mark with an assist from Greenhill as Hiram took a commanding 3-0 lead. Oberlin got on the board in the final minutes of the game during the 83rd minute from Justin Griffiths to make the score 3-1. But the Hiram lead was too much as the Terriers went on to the 3-1 victory.
In goal, junior Joe Rottinger (Strongsville) played all 90 minutes and got his eighth win of the season to improve to 8-3-1 overall. He allowed one goal and made six saves.
Hiram will conclude its mini two-game road trip on Tuesday, Oct. 18 when the Terriers travel to Meadville, Pa. for a NCAC game against Allegheny College. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
