The Hiram College men’s lacrosse team was defeated by Ohio Wesleyan University, 29-2, in a North Coast Athletic Conference game at Charles A. Henry Field.
OWU (7-4, 2-0 NCAC) scored its first goal just under a minute-and-a-half into the first quarter and never looked back. The Battling Bishops went on to post 12 more scores in the period and had a commanding 13-0 advantage after the first 15 minutes of play.
The second quarter started out with three more goals by OWU before Hiram freshman Greg Summers (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Mary’s) put the Terriers (1-5, 1-1 NCAC) on the board with a goal on a man-up advantage at the 7:11 minute mark to make the score 16-1. The Summers’ goal was all the points Hiram would record in the period as five more scores by OWU gave the Bishops a 21-1 margin at the intermission.
OWU outscored Hiram, 4-1, in the third quarter with Hiram’s goal coming from freshman John Deegan (Lakewood/St. Edward) on another man-up advantage with 6:12 left to play, but the Terriers would end up trailing, 25-2, heading into the final quarter.
The Bishops found the back of the net four times in the fourth quarter to round out the scoring and cruise to a 29-2 victory.
Hiram’s only point scorers were Summers and Deegan with their unassisted goals.
In net for the Terriers, freshman Mike Malloy (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) got the start and played 45 minutes recording six saves in 31 shots faced. Fellow freshman Sawyer Lott(Sunbury/Big Walnut) played the final 15 minutes a posted a pair of saves while facing six shots.
Hiram will host Wilmington College in a non-conference game on Tuesday, Apr. 2 at Henry Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
