The Hiram College men’s lacrosse team suffered a 25-1 defeat at the hands of Ohio Wesleyan University in a North Coast Athletic Conference game in Delaware.
OWU (7-2, 2-0 NCAC) scored the first 12 goals of the game with seven of those goals coming in the first quarter. The Battling Bishops found the back of the net for the first time at the 9:17 minute mark and the OWU offense didn’t let up from there. OWU outshot Hiram, 27-2, in the first 15 minutes en route to a 7-0 lead.
The Bishops added five more scores to begin the second quarter before Hiram (2-5, 0-2 NCAC) sophomore Chris Lekan (North Olmsted/Holy Name) ended the OWU run with an unassisted goal at the 8:36 mark making the score 12-1. But OWU went on to add three more scores to end the half for a commanding 15-1 advantage at the intermission.
OWU scored the only points of the second half with two goals in the third quarter and eight more scores in the fourth to cruise to the 25-1 final.
In net for Hiram, sophomore Sawyer Lott (Sunbury/Big Walnut) started the game and played just under 55 minutes, making 19 saves. He was also given the loss and is now 2-5 overall for the season. Junior Matt Hare (Rocky River) also saw playing time at goalkeeper playing the final five minutes and had one save.
Hiram is scheduled to travel to Wilmington for a non-conference game against Wilmington College on Wednesday, Apr. 2. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
