LOCKBOURNE, OHIO — The Hiram College men’s golf team placed 14th of 16 teams after the final round of the annual Capital University Purple & White Invitational today (Saturday, Apr. 2) at the Foxfire Golf Course in Lockbourne. [FINAL Results]
The Terriers shot a final round of 350 strokes to finish the two-day tournament with a team total of 703 strokes (353+350=703) to place 14th overall. Malone University won the event with 614 total strokes (299+315=614). Adrian (Mich.) College was second with 627 strokes (306+321=627) and Madonna (Mich.) University rounded out the top three with 632 strokes (314+318=632).
Individually, Hiram was led by senior Andy Deehr (Cortland/Champion) who fired an 86 on the final day and ended the tourney with 173 total strokes (87+86=173) on the par 72, 7,067-yard course layout. Junior Bryan Todd (Green) was second with a pair of 87s for a 174 stroke total (87+87=174). Junior Bob Ritchie (Strongsville/Brunswick) finished third on the team at 176 strokes (89+87=176), followed by freshman Ethan Tope (Dalton/Waynedale) with 180 strokes (90+90=180). Rounding out the Hiram competitors was freshman Chad Casey (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) with 194 strokes (97+97=194).
In addition, junior Corey Trusso (Ravenna) and senior Michael Walton (Mineral Ridge) competed as individuals. Trusso ended the tournament with a two-day total 195 strokes (96+99=195) and Walton finished with 218 strokes (107+111=218).
Hiram will next compete at the Denison University Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, Apr. 9-10 at the Granville Golf Course in Granville.
