Hiram College

The Hiram College men’s cross country team finished ninth and the women were 10th at the annual Penn State-Behrend Invitational in Erie, Pa.  [Complete Men’s Results] [Complete Women’s Results]

The men finished the meet with a team-total 215 points to place ninth of 17 teams.  Gannon (Pa.) College won the event with a total of 56 points.  Lake Erie College was second with 76 points and Defiance College finished third with 78 points.

Freshman Matthew Walker (Stow) led the Hiram men with a time of 28:05.1 and finished 26th overall individually out of 139 runners.  Senior Bryan Nemire (Berlin Heights/Edison) was the second Terrier to cross the finish line with a mark of 28:35.0.  Senior Brendan Curtin (Burton/Berkshire) was third at 28:57.2 and junior Tomoyuki Fujimoto (Mino, Japan) recorded the fourth quickest time on the team of 29:35.9.  Freshman Kevin Kerper (Twinsburg) recorded a time of 29:58.9 to finish fifth on the team and junior Dennis Kirimi (Nayiobi, Kenya) was sixth at 30:04.1.  Junior Anthony Franklin (Newbury) rounded out the top-seven times at 33:05.4.

In addition, senior Adam Miller (Mesopotamia/Cardinal) competed for the Terrier men and ran a time of 34:19.0.  Fellow senior Aaron Andzelik (Mayville, N.Y./Chautanqua Lake Central) posted a time of 35:26.0 and junior Mason Yeater (Kinsman/Badger) had a time of 38:32.3.  Sophomore Jabez Patterson (Chicago, Ill./Noble Street Charter School) completed the list of Hiram competitors and completed the course in a time of 48:01.7.

The Hiram women finished with 318 points to place 10th of 16 teams.  Host school PSU-Behrend captured the overall team title with 33 points and Gannon was second at 39 points.  Westminster (Pa.) College was third with 117 points.

Individually, junior Laila Almassri (Parma/Normandy) led Hiram with the team’s overall fastest time of 22:06.0 and placed 30th overall out of 137 runners.  Freshman Taylor Shutler (Salem/South Range) has the second quickest time for the Terriers of 23:00.6 and freshman Ashley Dillon (Orwell/Grand Valley) was third in a time of 25:23.4.  JuniorClarissa Claflin (Mayfield/Mayfield) completed the course in a time of 25:26.8 which was the fourth-best on the team.  Senior Bonnie Bentar (Monroe, Mich./Jefferson) followed Claflin crossing the finish line with a mark of 25:46.7 and senior Elizabeth Haase (Akron/Firestone) had a time of 25:59.8.  Senior Natalie Richardson (McConnelsville/Morgan) rounded out the possible scoring times finishing the race in a time of 26:10.2.

In addition, junior Carly Kidner (Ashtabula/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) and sophomore Sarah Dutton (Columbia, Md./Columbia) both competed for Hiram and turned in times of 26:59.3 and 27:54.8 respectively.

The Hiram cross country teams will next compete at the Lorain Community College Invitational on Friday, Sept. 21.
