Hiram College

ERIE, PA.  —  The Hiram College men’s cross country team placed sixth and the women were ninth at the annual Penn State-Behrend Invitational today (Saturday, Sept. 17) in Erie, Pa.  [Men’s Results] [Women’s Results]

The men ended the event with a team score of 176 points to place sixth overall of 14 schools.  Buffalo (N.Y.) State took the team title with 42 points and host school PSU-Behrend was second at 60 points.  Rounding out the top three teams was Defiance College with 68 points.

Individually, senior Joe Hengoed (Seven Hills/Normandy) led the way for the Terriers recording a top overall mark of 26:37.0 and placed fifth overall out of 124 runners.  Junior Bryan Nemire (Berlin Heights/Edison) was second with a time of 27:59.8.  Junior Brendon Curtin (Burton/Berkshire) crossed the finish line third for Hiram with a time of 28:28.1 and sophomore Tomoyuki Fujimoto (Mino, Japan) posted the third quickest time at 29:41.8.  Junior Dennis Kirimi (Nayiobi, Kenya) had the fourth fastest time for Hiram at 31:52.7 and senior Don Daley (Chagrin Falls/University School) was fifth at 32:12.2.  Rounding out the scoring times of the Terriers was sophomore Manpret Grewal (Parma/Normandy) who crossed the finish line in a time of 36:02.4.  Also competing was sophomore Anthony Franklin (Newbury) who ran a time of 37:22.8.  Freshman Bryan Goldstein (Lyndhurst/Brush) completed the 8k course in a time of 40:20.4 and Jabez Patterson (Chicago, Ill./Noble Street Charter School) posted a mark of 45:12.6.

The women totaled 258 points to place ninth overall out of 11 schools.  PSU-Behrend captured the women’s team title with a total of 45 points and was followed by Gannon (Pa.) University in second at 70 points.  Rounding out the top three schools was Westminster (Pa.) College at 75 points.

Sophomore Laila Almassri (Parma/Normandy) led the Hiram women with a time of 21:17.5 and finished 34th overall of 103 runners.  Sophomore Clarissa Claflin (Mayfield/Mayfield Heights) was second to cross the finish line for the Terriers with a mark of 23:24.0.  Junior Megan Orosz (Mentor/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) was third at 23:33.4 and junior Natalie Richardson (McConnelsville/Morgan) posted the fourth best time on the team at 24:27.3.  Freshman Patricia Bohls (Macedonia) was fifth with a mark of 26:06.2.  Senior Christine Bieniosek (Litchfield) had the sixth fastest time at 26:11.7 and junior Amy Morton (Tacoma, Wash./St. Anthony Village, Minn.) rounded out the top-seven scoring times for Hiram with a time of 26:49.9.  Also competing for Hiram freshman Ellen Rochford (Akron/St. Vincent-St. Mary) who completed the course in a time of 28:41.7 and fellow freshman Sarah Dutton (Columbia, Md.) followed just behind at 28:42.3.  Completing the participants for Hiram was junior Elizabeth Haase (Akron/Firestone) who ran a time of 28:46.7.

The Hiram cross country teams will compete on Friday, Sept. 23 at Lorain Community College.  The event begins at 6 p.m.
