UNIVERSITY CIRCLE, OHIO — The Hiram College men’s basketball team had its best offensive performance of the season in a 103-69 rout of Case this afternoon (Saturday, Dec. 18) in a non-conference game in University Circle. [Game Stats]
The Terriers claimed their fourth straight win and improve to 7-4 overall. The Spartans fall to 2-6 overall for the season.
Hiram never trailed in the game and posted its first double-digit lead at the 9:31 minute mark of the first half on a layup by senior forward Babajide Eniola (Washington, D.C./Seed Charter) making the score 28-18. The Terriers took control of the game soon after with a 9-0 scoring run that included a three-pointer by freshman guard Aaron Stefanov (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls), one of his six triples on the day, that led to an eventual lead of 18 points, 40-22, with 6:20 left before the break. Hiram went on to record its largest lead of the period with a halftime score of 56-37.
In the second half, Hiram continued to pull away and posted its largest lead of the game of 34 points on two occassions including the final score of 103-69.
Both teams had impressive shooting performances with the edge going in favor of Hiram who converted 58.8 percent (40-of-68) of its shots, including 56.5 percent (13-of-23) from behind the arc. Case ended the game shooting 54.1 percent (20-of-37) from the field.
The Spartans were led in scoring by Tom Summers with 16 points on five-of-seven shooting (71.4 percent). Austin Fowler and Robert Scott were tied for second with 13 points each. Eric Duerr rounded ot the Case high scorers with 10 points.
Hiram was led by Stefanov with a game-high 20 points on seven-of-10 shooting (70.0 percent), including a perfect six-of-six from three-point range. Junior guard Andrew Wiegand (Amherst/Firelands) was second with 15 points and Eniola added 11 points.
Hiram will be idle until Wednesday, Dec. 29 when the Terriers host Muskingum University in non-conference game at Price Gymnasium. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
