HIRAM, OHIO  — The Hiram College men’s basketball team was defeated by Bluffton University, 71-60, tonight (Wednesday, Nov. 24) in a non-conference game at Price Gymnasium.  [Game Stats]

Following tonight’s game, the Terriers fall to 2-2 overall and the Beavers improve to 3-0 overall for the season.

Hiram led in the opening minutes, but a 14-2 scoring run by Bluffton gave the Beavers a 19-9 advantage at the 11:21 minute mark.  Bluffton never trailed the remainder of the game and led by as many 18 points in the first period with a halftime score of 43-25.

In the second half, the Beavers recorded their largest lead of the game of 19 points in the opening minutes of the period, 46-27, with 18:02 left to play.  Hiram battled back and cut the deficit to single digits on three occassions with the last one being a nine-point margin, 69-60, thanks to a pair of free-throws by senior two-time All-North Coast Athletic Conference guard Chris Roberts (Cleveland/Kennedy) with 53 seconds left to go as part of an 11-3 run.  But that would be as close as the Terriers would get as Bluffton recorded the final points of the game en route to the 71-60 final.

Bluffton won the shooting battle, converting an impressive 51.1 percent (24-of-47) of its shots to Hiram’s 36.5 percent (23-of-63) shooting from the floor.

The Beavers were led by Will Pope with a game-highs of 22 points on 11-of-13 shooting (84.6 percent) and 12 rebounds.  Nick Lee and Mychal Hill rounded out the Bluffton high scorers with 11 points each.

Hiram was led by Roberts’ 13 points on five-of-13 shooting (38.5 percent).  Freshman guard Aaron Stefanov (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) was the only other Terrier in double figures with 10 points.  Junior forward Chris Meyer (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) and senior forward Babajide Eniola (Washington, D.C./Seed Charter) each grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Hiram will travel to Berea on Sunday (Nov. 28) for a non-conference game against Baldwin-Wallace College.  The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium.
