The Hiram College men’s and women’s basketball teams will open play in their respective North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) tournaments on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
The men will host Kenyon at 7:30 p.m., while the women will play at Kenyon at 7 p.m.
The men’s squad will be seeded third and posted an 18-7 overall record and 12-6 mark in the NCAC. The 18 overall wins for the Terriers are the most since 1973-74 and the 12 conference victories are the most since Hiram joined the league in 1999-00.
The Terriers swept both meetings against the Lords this season, recording a 88-78 win in Gambier on Dec. 5 and winning in Hiram 92-74 on Jan. 23.
Hiram will make its first trip to the tournament since the 2011-12 season, when the Terriers fell to Ohio Wesleyan in the quarterfinals.
Hiram will also host a quarterfinal matchup for the only the second time since they joined the NCAC. The Terriers also hosted in 2008-09, falling to Wabash (Ind.) 83-75.
The women’s squad enters the tournament as the number six seed and finished 12-13 overall, with a 6-10 record in the NCAC. The 12 victories tied a single season program record and the six NCAC are the most for the program since they joined the conference in 1999-00.
The Terriers and Ladies split their two matchups this season, with both teams winning on the road. Hiram was victorious in Kenyon, 62-61, on Dec. 5 but fell at home 49-35 on Jan. 23.
The Terriers qualified for the NCAC tournament last season and fell to top seed DePauw (Ind.).
Tickets will be $7 for adults and $5 for children (18 and under). Students with NCAC institution IDs will be admitted for free.
