The Hiram College music department will hold a memorial concert on April 29, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. in Frohring Recital Hall. The concert will honor the late Hiram College professors Debra Rodriguez, Robert Sawyer and Craig Moser. All passed away in 2012.
The concert will feature professor of music Randall Fusco (pianist), assisted by assistant professor of music Dawn Sonntag (soprano). Cleveland Orchestra members Emma Shook (violin), Richard King (horn) and Barrick Stees (bassoon), will also perform.
Debra Rodriguez, who died May 2, 2012, served Hiram College for 19 years as teacher, mentor, colleague, administrator and scholar. During those years she welcomed students into her class and her home, challenging them to become global citizens. She was passionately committed to student success and led several study abroad trips to Spain and Costa Rica.
Robert Sawyer died May 17, 2012, and was a much beloved professor of classical literature, history, Latin and Greek. Since coming to Hiram in 1972, he touched the hearts of many in the Hiram College community with his gentle and warm spirit and his dedication to the college. He made many contributions to the Weekend College and Hiram’s study abroad programs.
Craig Moser died July 24, 2012, and was a professor of economics from 1975 until his death. He served Hiram College as an Associate Dean, Director of Institutional Research, Department Chair, golf coach, and also led several student trips to England and Russia. Moser also served as Mayor of Garrettsville from 2003 until his death.
