The Lindsay-Crane Center for Writing & Literature has declared its Fall 2022 Creative Nonfiction Contest winners!

Hiram’s creative nonfiction contest has been offered for over 20 years. Creative nonfiction is “Factual and literary writing that has the narrative, dramatic, meditative, and lyrical elements of novels, plays, poetry, and memoirs,” as defined by the Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP).

This contest was open to all Hiram College students, and all submitted work was original and unpublished. The winners received a monetary award along with recognition for their success.

2022 winners:

  • 1st Place: “Missing Girls,” Andrea Goodman
  • 2nd Place: “Washer and Dryer MUST be Included,” Makayla Thomas
  • 3rd Place: “Obaa-chan: Grandmother,” Darian Kanno
  • Honorable Mention: “Emma Olive Ryder: Hiram’s First Librarian,” Dylan Baumgardner
