Jennifer Hirt’s first book, “Under Glass: The Girl with a Thousand Christmas Trees,” has been published by the University of Akron Press. The book’s 12 essays follow the rise and fall of the Hirts’ family business – greenhouses – and the family itself.
An instructor in humanities and English composition at Penn State Harrisburg, Hirt earned a Master of Arts from Iowa State University and a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from the University of Idaho. She has received four Pushcart Prize nominations for writers of short stories, poetry and essays. She received a 2009 Fellowship from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, was a writer-in-residence at Kentucky’s Bernheim Arboretum and received a grant from the Ohioana Library Association.
