HIRAM, OHIO – The Hiram College volleyball team defeated Oberlin College, 3-0, tonight (Oct. 27) in a North Coast Athletic Conference match at Price Gymnasium. [Match Statistics]
With the win, the Terriers improve to 22-9 overall and improved their conference record to 12-1 in the NCAC. The loss for Oberlin dropped their record to 4-24 overall and 3-10 NCAC. The win makes it eight straight match victories for the Terriers.
Hiram defeated Oberlin in the first set by a 25-10 final. The second set was dominated by Hiram throughout as they picked up the 25-8 set win. The third set was a bit closer, but Hiram would prevail, 25-20, giving the Terriers the 3-0 sweep.
Sophmore outside hitter Ariel Pund (Macedonia/Walsh Jesuit was dominant in the match with a game-high 13 kills. JuniorAll-NCAC outside hitter Shaina Bryan (South Euclid/Brush) was second with nine kills. Freshman setter Kallie Rogers (Petersburg/Springfield Local) led the way with 20 assists, while senior setter Alyssa Coundourides (Brunswick/Parma-Padua Franciscan) finished with 14 assists.
Defensively, senior All-NCAC outside hitter Kim Sage (Bellevue) led the defense with 14 digs, while freshman setter Danielle Day (Newbury) was second on the team with eight digs. Junior outside hitter Megan Woodard (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) had the only solo block in the match.
Hiram will host The College of Wooster on Saturday, Oct. 30 in the NCAC and regular-season home finale at Price Gymnasium. It will also be Senior Day with the match beginning at 1 p.m.
