The Hiram College football team announced that seniors Kyle Burchett (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Harding) and Zayd Mabin (Lehigh Acres, Fla. / Winter Haven) will represent the Terriers in the National Bowl Game in Daytona Beach, Fla. this Saturday.

The National Bowl Game is an annual post-season college football all-star game consisting of top players from Non-FBS schools. The National Bowl Game showcases All-American and All-Conference seniors from around the Nation that travel to the game from more than 30 states representing 400-plus Division II,III and FCS schools.

The National Bowl is the elite and only current post-season all-star game to focus on players below D1/FBS that get the opportunity to play in front of several NFL and CFL scouts.

Burchett finished his senior season being named Second-Team All-Conference by the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). Over the course of the season, the linebacker finished second in the conference in tackles, recording 109 (63 solo, 46 assists). He also had four sacks for a loss of 20 yards. In addition, Burchett also tacked on three pass breakups, one interception, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

Prior to this season, Burchett was tabbed a second-team preseason All-American by herosports.com. He was also a first-team All-NCAC selection during his junior season.

In his final year as a Terrier, Mabin was named an All-NCAC selection for the third time. The defensive lineman led the conference in sacks (8.5), which totaled for a loss of 52 yards. He also racked up a total of 49 tackes (36 solo, 13 assists) with 14 coming for a loss; a new career-high. He also tied his career-high in forced fumbles (2).

Before being named a first-team honoree as a senior, Mabin was named second-team All-NCAC in both his sophomore and junior seasons.

The two Terriers, along with Allegheny’s John McFarland and Wittenberg’s Dustin Holmes and Will Gingery, make up the five players that will represent the NCAC.
