Professor of Biology Denny Taylor and Amberly Neice ’14, biology major, were among a select group of students and professors who presented at the Choose Ohio First Scholar Showcase on April 14, 2014, at Columbus State Community College. The event recognized Choose Ohio First scholarship recipients.

The Choose Ohio First Scholarship Program awards Ohio colleges, universities and their business partners that have developed innovative academic programs to recruit and retain more Ohio students into STEMM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine) fields. The funding that they receive is used to offer scholarships for those programs to current and potential students.

Neice, along with Masam Musavi (University of Akron) and Brittany Emmert (Kent State University) presented on the impact of the Igniting Streams of Learning in Science summer institute, which they all attended at Hiram College from 2007-2009, paid for by the Ohio Board of Regents. They spoke on the impact that this program, coupled with their Choose Ohio First scholarship, has had on their education and careers. Neice, Musavi and Emmert were three of only five students who spoke at the showcase, which had more than 200 attendees from all over the state of Ohio.

Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor John Carey and Secretary of State John Husted also spoke at the event.
