HIRAM, OHIO – Hiram College officials have announced they will add men’s and women’s lacrosse as intercollegiate sports and begin competing in the Spring of 2013. Hiram currently offers 14 intercollegiate teams and is a member of the North Coast Athletic Conference and NCAA Div. III.
“We have been considering lacrosse for several years,” said Hiram College Athletic Director Tom Mulligan. “We are in the process of bringing about some major improvements to our locker room facilities and installing synthetic turf on the Charles A. Henry Field. Those enhancements provide the facilities necessary to allow us to field lacrosse in a competitive manner.”
Hiram officials will initiate searches for head coaches for each sport with the intention of having the new coaches on board in August. The new members of the Hiram staff will spend the 2011-2012 academic year recruiting and play will begin during the 2013 spring season.
“We believe lacrosse is a sport which fits nicely here at Hiram,” said Mulligan. “The sport attracts good students who will be a good fit for our academic environment. Our athletic program continues to grow in strength and we feel strongly we can field competitive teams.”
Hiram currently offers intercollegiate competition in men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, volleyball, football, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming, softball, baseball, and men’s and women’s golf.
