HIRAM, OHIO — Hiram College senior Trevor Gibbs (Georgetown, Cayman Islands/Hotchkiss School) has been chosen as a member of the Cayman Islands National Team which is currently competing in Digicel Carribean Championships at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands.
Gibbs along with several other players from the Cayman Islands region, began tryouts for the national team last week and Gibbs was announced as being named to the final squad of 18 players this past Tuesday (Aug. 27).
“We are very proud of Trevor, being the first Hiram College athlete named to his senior national team,” said fifth-year Head Coach Carl Capellas. “This is something that Trevor has wanted for a long time and he has worked very hard to get there.”
Gibbs and the Cayman Islands National Team will be one of four teams in “Group C” in the five group Carribean Championships. The team began play on Tuesday against St. Martins and will play in its second match of the tournament on Friday (Aug. 29) against Antigua and Barbuda. The winning team of each group will advance to the finals with the overall champion of the Tournament competing in the 2010 World Cup.
