Hiram College

Hiram College and the Terrier men’s basketball team will host it’s annual alumni game this Saturday, Jan. 26 prior to the varsity game against Oberlin College at Price Gymnasium.

The day will begin at noon with the alumni game where 25-30 of the best men’s basketball players and coaches in school history will have the opportunity to play in two 20-minute periods. Following the Alumni Day festivities, the current men’s basketball team will host Oberlin College in a North Coast Athletic Conference game which begins at 3 p.m.

Highlighting the list of expected returning men’s basketball alumni is former Hiram coach and Hall of Famer Bill Hollinger ’43. Hollinger spent 32 seasons as head coach and is the winningest coach in Hiram history with 301 career victories. During his tenure, he led his team to a conference championship during the 1975-76 season and made three consecutive NCAA Division III National Tournament appearances (1972-75). Hollinger has been a long-time active member of the Hiram community and supporter of the men’s basketball team and all of the Terrier athletic programs. The court in Price Gymnasium along with the Hiram Hall of Fame is named in his honor.

Also returning are Hall of Famers Ernie Pasqualone ’77, Rod Swartz ’87, John Lampe ’93 and Steve Fleming ’94. Swartz is the all-time leading scorer in men’s basketball history with 2,252 career points (1983-87) and currently holds a combined 11 individual and career school records. Lampe who is second on the all-time scoring list with 1,748 points (1989-93), has also left his mark in the record books as the owner of five individual and career records. Current men’s basketball Coach Steve Fleming is currently seventh on the Hiram all-time scoring list with 1,395 career points (1989-90, 1991-94) and holds six school records. Now entering his second year as head coach, Fleming led his team to its first NCAC Tournament appearance since the 2002-03 season last year and are looking to make back-to-back appearances in 2007-08.

“We look forward to having a significant number of alums coming back to campus this weekend,” said Fleming. “We’re glad to have Coach Hollinger being apart of the event and we hope that Saturday will be an enjoyable day for everyone.”
