The Hiram College indoor track and field teams competed at the first of two meets hosted by Oberlin College this season at the John W. Heisman Field House in Oberlin. The meet was unscored. [Complete Results]
Leading the way for the women was senior All-NCAC hurdler Lynne Hutchison (Solon) who captured the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.99 seconds. The Terrier women had one other competitor place in the top ten in freshman Kelly Blon (Jefferson) who finished ninth in the 55-meter dash recording a time of 8.12 seconds.
The men also had an event winner in junior Kevin Tolbert (Shaker Heights) with a winning time of 6.66 seconds in the 55-meter dash. Tolbert also placed second in the 200-meter dash posting a time of 24.12 seconds. Also finishing in the top ten for Hiram was freshman Nicholas Michalenko (Coraopolis, Pa./Sacred Heart) who placed ninth in the 500-meterdash (1:15.49) and fifth in the 1000-meter run (2:56.59). Freshman sprinter/hurdler Steve Hammond (Huber Heights/Kettering Fairmont) finished fourth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.62 seconds.
The Hiram track teams will continue the season on Saturday, Feb. 2 at the annual North Coast Athletic Conference Relay Meet hosted by Denison University in Granville. The meet is scheduled to begin a 2 p.m.
