WOOSTER, OHIO — The Hiram College cross country teams opened the 2008 season at The College of Wooster Invitational in Wooster. The Terrier women placed fourth of four teams while the men also finished fourth of four teams in the team standings. [Women’s Results] [Men’s Results]
Kenyon College won the overall women’s event with 32 points followed by Edinboro (Pa.) University with 37 points. Host school Wooster finished third tallying 59 points.
Individually, the Hiram women were led by freshman Zipporah Kirubi (Elyria) who placed 40th overall with a time of 19:00. Sophomore Meghen Broman (Akron/Ellet) finished nine spots back in 49th place recording a time of 20:34. Bristena Marinescu posted the third best time on the team crossing the finish line in 21:21. Junior Katherine Eppley (Stow) completed the 6k course in a time of 21:54 while Rachel Bisker (Ostrander/Milford Center Fairbanks) rounded out the top five performances finishing with a mark of 22:45. Also competing for Hiram was junior Kim Hilinski (Bainbridge Twp./Kenston) who had a time of 23:57, Katie Kern crossed the line in 26:16, sophomore Kelly Blon (Jefferson/Jefferson Area) posted a time of 27:16, sophomore Lindsay Kuhn (Canfield) had a time of 27:20, sophomore Holly Finzel (Burton/Berkshire) ran a 27:28 and sophomore Leah Shema (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) finished with a time of 27:31.
On the men’s side, Edinboro captured the overall event with 15 points. Kenyon was second with 50 points while Wooster was third with 74 points.
Freshman Joseph Hengoed (Seven Hills/Normandy) recorded the top time for the Hiram men and finished 25th overall with a time of 22:45. Freshman Zachary Eshelmann (Carona, Ariz./Cienega) and junior William Brown (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier Central) posted the second and third best times on the team with marks of 23:26 and 23:30 respectively. Junior Kent Vasko (Newbury) was fourth to complete the course for Hiram recording a time of 24:13. Senior Josh Kashmer (South Dayton, N.Y./Pine Valley) rounded out the top-five competitors for the Terriers posting a time of 24:50. Also competing for Hiram was sophomore Nicholas Michalenko (Moon Twp., Pa./Our Lady of Sacred Heart) and freshman Donald Daley (Chagrin Falls/University School) who finished the event with times of 25:16 and 30:14.
The cross country teams will be in action tomorrow (Saturday, Aug. 30) at the Westmister College Invitational in New Wilmington, Pa. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
