Hiram College Awarded More Than $459,000 Through Ohio’s Choose Ohio First Program

Hiram College has been awarded $459,361 through the State of Ohio’s Choose Ohio First (COF) program, a competitive scholarship initiative designed to strengthen Ohio’s workforce in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM) fields.

The funding, awarded by the Ohio Department of Higher Education, will support scholarships for students pursuing high-demand STEM-related degrees and careers. The award represents the maximum funding amount provided to Hiram College through the program.

Choose Ohio First is the state’s signature STEM scholarship and workforce development initiative, helping colleges and universities attract and retain talented students in fields critical to Ohio’s economic growth and innovation.

“This investment reflects the strength of Hiram College’s commitment to preparing students for meaningful careers in high-demand fields,” said Interim President Jim Malz ’87. “Through hands-on learning, close faculty mentorship, and real-world experiences, Hiram students are gaining the skills and knowledge needed to make an impact in Ohio and beyond.”

The funding will allow Hiram College to continue expanding opportunities for students pursuing careers in STEM disciplines while helping address workforce needs across the state. Scholarships awarded through the program help reduce financial barriers for students and encourage graduates to remain in Ohio after completing their degrees.

Hiram College has long emphasized experiential learning and personalized support, connecting students with internships, undergraduate research opportunities, and career preparation experiences that position graduates for success.
