Hiram College is pleased to announce the creation of the Myers Family Scholarship Fund, a new endowed scholarship established through a transformational gift from Dr. Michael Myers ’83 and his family to support students pursuing degrees in chemistry.
Funded through a gift of approximately $200,000 in Eli Lilly and Company stock, the endowed scholarship will provide financial support to Hiram students with demonstrated financial need who have declared a major in chemistry.
More than a scholarship, the fund represents a multi-generational investment in the future of science education at Hiram College and a tribute to the faculty and opportunities that shaped the Myers family’s lives and careers.
The scholarship continues the legacy of the Paul Fall Scholarship, which supported Dr. Myers and his two siblings, Dr. Ann Myers-Abraham ’88, and Dr. Brian Myers ’94, during their time as chemistry majors at Hiram. The Myers Family Scholarship Fund also honors the lasting influence of former Chemistry Department Chair Dr. John Andrews and the many chemistry faculty members who mentored the Myers family throughout their Hiram experience.
“Hiram College opened doors that changed the trajectory of our lives,” said Dr. Myers. “This scholarship is our family’s way of ensuring future students have access to the same kind of life-changing education, mentorship, and opportunity that we received here.”
Dr. Myers built a distinguished career spanning more than three decades in the pharmaceutical industry, contributing to the discovery and development of treatments in cancer, infectious disease, neuroscience, and cardiovascular medicine. Most recently, he served as Associate Vice President at Lilly Research Labs, where he led due diligence efforts related to licensing and strategic partnerships. He is listed as an inventor on more than 35 patents and remains recognized for his significant contributions to pharmaceutical research and innovation.
His commitment to Hiram has extended far beyond the classroom. Dr. Myers has served on the College’s Board of Visitors, held leadership roles in alumni engagement, mentored students, and remained an active advocate for the College for decades. Today, he continues that service as a member of Hiram College’s Board of Trustees, helping to guide the institution’s future while championing its mission and students.
“This extraordinary gift reflects the power of a Hiram education and the enduring connection our alumni feel to this institution,” said Shawn Dailey, vice president for development and alumni relations at Hiram College. “The Myers family is creating opportunities that will impact students for generations while strengthening one of Hiram’s most historic and respected academic programs.”
