In October, Dan Maxson ’79 received the Medical Mutual of Ohio Outstanding Senior Volunteer Award for his commitment to volunteerism over the years, including his dedication to the Fairport Harbor Marine Museum and Lighthouse for the last 26 years.
Medical Mutual honored groups of 2022 Outstanding Senior Volunteer award winners in Greater Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati. Maxson was one of six Northeast Ohioans to receive the award.
Along with his award, Maxson will be donating the $500 donation made by Medical Mutual to the Spirit of American Foundation, a free boating education program offered to seventh graders. Maxson has volunteered with the program since 1995.
Over the years, Maxson has also volunteered for various other nonprofits, including:
- Spirit of America (1995 – present)
- FHHS / Fairport Harbor Lighthouse & Marine Museum. (1996 – present)
- Stone Schoolhouse Museum – Concord Township (2016 – present)
- Lake Metroparks Volunteer (2003 – present)
- Hiram College Alumni Executive Board (2010 – 2017)
- News-Herald Community Writer (2010 – 2016)
- Lake County History Center (contributed monthly articles since 2012)
- Lake County Visitors Bureau
- Euclid Central JHS/ MS Alumni HOF founder/Euclid City Schools (2008 – present)
