Hiram College will host its third annual Hope for Happiness Suicide Prevention Walk on Saturday, March 26. The event starts with a pancake breakfast from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Hiram College Kennedy Center, followed by a 10 a.m. to noon walk.
Inspired by Hiram College alumna Kailey Cooper who lost her stepfather to suicide, the walk aims to raise public and campus awareness about depression and suicide. Along the walk route, more than 70 students from area high schools including Crestwood, Windham, Newbury, New Tech, Akron Early College, Barberton and Buchtel will host booths to provide depression and suicide prevention resource materials.
“We want people to know there is help if they need it,” says event organizer Cara Constance, an associate professor of biology at Hiram College.
